In the 1.0 release, version numbers and copyright dates are
hardcoded! Version number should be specified in a properties file
or similar and read by PuffinPlot at runtime.

The manual could also do with better automatic versioning.
At the moment it just pulls the datestamp off the tip of the
Mercurial repository.

Release information is now gleaned from Mercurial at build time.
For the manual, it is munged with a Python script and included
into the LaTeX source. For the program, it is written to a 
properties file which is packaged and read at run-time.
